Stuart J. Murphy, an author from the award-winning Math Start Books, models for all children and educators, "I See I Learn. For happier, healthier, more confident children." This statement, brought a spark of hope and wonder towards the strategy of Visual Learning in the classroom. There are times when educators feels that visuals are catered more towards students with learning disabilities, but this should not be the theory or mindset for teachers. I feel regardless of age or gender, we all need VISUALS in our lives.
The National Training Center on Inclusion shares a visual strategy in creating Schedules. They stated, "schedules can provide a sense of control and independence for children and youth, including organize and direct their behavior." In my class, I start with Classroom Discipline and Organization, before Instructing Content. How are students able to learn, without management? Using a Picture Schedule assists students to be responsible of their learning, and this is a life long skill needed in the real-world to survive.
